I started painting owls in the later part of 2012 and selling them on Etsy soon after. I am a landscape painter and really kept to that niche for a long time until I felt just a little bored with it one day and decided to go back to the drawing board, literally. I wanted to hone my drawing skills and picked owls because I had just started a small (ok not really small) obsession with these quirky fellows. Some of my first owls were more realistic, but with colorful plumage. I was testing out new things and experimenting. The colorful style remained and over time the owls became more cartoon-like and less realistic. I have a really fun time giving them different expressions, putting them in human situations and laughing out loud at what comes forward. I am exploring other forms of illustration with botanicals and I am in the process of sketching and writing several illustrated books for kids and adults.
